Understanding Individual Therapy Individual therapy, also known as psychotherapy or counseling, is a process where a person works privately with a licensed therapist to address emotional difficulties, behavioral patterns, or personal goals. Unlike group or family therapy, individual therapy focuses entirely on one person’s inner world—their thoughts, emotions, experiences, and desires.
