Romans 7! | |
Romans 7:15-18 (KJV) 15: For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I. (Paul always had a problem with this as most other humans do also. We always want to do right, but many times we do what we hate. [Ecclesiastes 7:20, 1 Timothy 1:15, I John 1:7-8]. If we say we will never sin, we are only fooling ourselves and refusing to accept the truth. Many believe that once you are saved you cannot sin. Not so... We are all sinners as long as we are in this flesh body; the reason repentance exists). 16: If then I do that which I would not, I consent unto the law that it is good. (If I know that what I am doing is wrong, this shows that I agree that the law is good. [Psalms 119:127-128]). 17: Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me. (It is not necessarily us that does the wrong. It is the sins within us that is doing wrong. We need to listen more to our good spirit within [the Holy Spirit], and not the evil spirit that entices the flesh man). 18: For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not. (Nothing good lives within us concerning our sinful nature. When we listen to our sinful nature within we cannot do what is right. [Galatians 5:17]. Our flesh always wants to do wrong and what is the opposite or against the Holy Spirit. Just as the Holy Spirit wants to do what is right and what is the opposite or against the flesh). These verses and others describe me and my actions perfectly. I do those things which I hate and despise; I hurt the ones I love the most, and that in turn hurts me inside. And, I find it truly difficult sometimes to do what is correct and right. My actions represent the conflict between my flesh (sinful actions) and my spirit. Some verses on why Jesus came here: Mark 2:17; Luke 19:10. Additional insight! Some of the most intense fighting can be found in the human heart between the flesh and the spirit. The Apostle Paul wrote, "...the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish". Satan wants us to fulfill our own fleshly desires by immersing ourselves in the "works of the flesh", not so with the Lord; he wants us to imbibe in the "fruit of the Spirit" [Galatians 5:22-26]. When we do those things which satisfy the flesh, the law produces condemnation, a sense of guilt, a sense of danger. The law can't produce pardon, relief, and joy the same as God's word. But the spirit gives life, (John 6:63, God's word). It is the Spirit alone that gives eternal life. Human effort (flesh) accomplishes nothing but death. Study your Bibles completely, cover to cover.
