Petrol Price in Mumbai | |
Petrol prices in Mumbai have been on a rise since the start of the financial year in April. The fuel prices have seen an overall increase of 8.07 per cent for regular unleaded petrol, to Rs. 85.70 per litre from Rs. 79.45 per litre. Petrol prices in the city are now higher than the all-time high of around Rs. 84.20 per litre touched in the month of May 2013. Diesel prices too have seen a massive increase of 11.88 per cent to Rs. 72.20 per litre from Rs. 64.64 per litre in April. The rise in fuel prices is mainly due to the volatility in global crude oil prices and the increasing cost of crude in the international market. The rupee value of Indian currency also impacts the price of petrol and diesel. Additionally, state governments add taxes on the cost of fuel, thus increasing the price. The rising fuel costs have a far-reaching impact on the economy. From manufacturing to service industries, the flow of goods and services is hampered due to higher fuel costs, leading to a decrease in demand. This has resulted in an unfavorable environment for businesses, as well as for consumers. | |
