Rear Shock Absorber by BILSTEIN - 19-139333 Rear Shock & Struts Both shocks and struts regulate the spring movement to hold the tires on the road and protect the vehicle from shocks. The strut is part of the suspension assembly that includes a spring coil and the upper strut mount. Struts allow efficient utilization of space by taking the place of independent shocks, springs, and arms. They carry the weight of the vehicle and provide a focal point for steering. Hydraulic shocks and struts have piston rods connected to pistons that go up and down inside hydraulic fluid-filled cylinders. The pistons are provided with small calibrated fluid passages so that the hydraulic fluid can flow through them as the piston moves in the cylinder. The fluid passes through these small orifices slowly, which slows the motion of the piston and consequently springs and suspensions. Some shock absorbers and struts contain nitrogen gas, which prohibits fluid aeration and allows the suspensions to work longer in high heat. BILSTEIN The company Bilstein was born by the religious efforts of Hans Bilstein, who made his first move towards automotive accessories industry in 1927 before setting its own strip iron rolling mill in 1919, through his cooperation with the Berlin based lifting company Levator-HebeZeuge-Fabrik. In 1928, four years before the opening of the first motorway between Cologne and Bonn, Bilstein had supplied chrome plated bumpers for mass-produced cars and it was only after this year, the company had started producing car jacks. In Bilstein’s signature style, the company entered with an enormous technical innovation, introducing the first usable side jack. Also, in 1954, Bilstein accepted the idea of the french researcher that was in the field of vibrations. It aimed at completely eliminating the disadvantageous telescopic shock absorbers, while making the dampers lighter and adjustable. All these series of technical innovations followed and the revenues earned provided a rock hard basis for later success of this young company.
