The most important and frequently serviced part of the disc brake system is the brake pad. Brake pads are made of metal with friction linings on one side. Using hydraulic pressure, the force from the brake pedal applied by the driver is transferred to the piston that exerts pressure on the brake pads. This pressure forces the brake pads against the rotating brake disc that moves along with the wheels. This action creates friction between the brake disc and pad surface and eventually causes the wheels to stop.
