No Sign up, No Email Required to Post. Hello!! my name is Koni and I’m fundraising for the Bompehtoke community, a town located in the Southern Province of Sierra Leone (SL), West Africa. Today I was brought to tears when looking at photos of the only Bompehtoke hospital, sent to me by my cousin. I wanted to know why any human being will have to go to a facility that looks like that when they’re sick or when they need to deliver their babies. I was directed to talk to the community Health Officer and he informed me the roof started leaking 3 years ago and because of the adverse economic situation in SL, the community has not been able to raise funds to fix the roof. And also, for the past 3 years, they have been asking private, government and non-governmental agencies in SL for help to repair the roof but they have not received any help to date. The rainy season is going to start in June, next month in SL and water is going to start coming down on patients again for the next 6 months if nothing is done to fix the roof. As a result of the leaks, the hospital floor is constantly wet, damp and unhygienic during the rainy season. And in addition, the community Health Officer also informed me that the hospital is constantly out of essential medical supplies because the hospital cannot afford to purchase them and if the patients can’t afford to buy these supplies which is the case 90% of the time, this hinders the delivery of necessary healthcare services. Please assist the community in Bompehtoke to renovate the only hospital the town has and also to buy and stock essential medical supplies such as defibrillators, blankets and fluid warmers, EKG/ECG machines, sterilizers, syringes, cotton balls, and swabs because they are always in short supply in the hospital.
