Thompson Contractors is the workforce arm of Thompson Construction Group. Business Address: 411 South Ave, Spruce Grove, Alberta T7X 3B5 Work Location: Multiple sites located in the Fort McMurray area Type of Employment: Full Time– Permanent Estimated Start Date: As soon as possible Job Description: ● Adjust equipment and repair or replace defective parts ● Clean, lubricate and perform other maintenance work ● Service attachments and working tools ● Verify and repair emission control systems ● Troubleshoot and inspect equipment to detect faults and malfunctions ● Diagnose faults or malfunctions using computerized and other testing equipment to determine the extent of repair required ● Test repaired equipment for proper performance and to ensure that work meets manufacturers' specifications ● Keep maintenance reports and documentation ● Instruct apprentices ● Perform repair work on heavy equipment ● Communicate with site management to coordinate maintenance priorities ● Promote safety awareness by ensuring compliance with corporate health and safety policies and procedures ● Perform preventative maintenance ● Drive equipment to different sites as instructed by management. Requirements: - Education: Completion of high school is required - Experience and Certification Requirements: - Heavy Duty Mechanic Certification or be eligible to obtain the Certification. Completion of a three- to five-year apprenticeship program or A combination of over four years of work experience in the trade and some high school, college, or industry courses in heavy equipment repair is required to be eligible for trade certification. - Knowledge of troubleshooting/repairing CAT is required - Knowledge of troubleshooting/repairing John Deere and Hitachi equipment is an asset - Experience in Heavy Civil Earthworks Construction and/or Infrastructure is required - A valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License or equivalent is required (candidate to provide current abstract). Class 3 Driver’s License with air brakes is an asset - Ability to handle up to 23 kg (50 lbs.) - Must be able to pass a pre-access drug and alcohol test Language: English is required - Working Conditions and Physical Capabilities: Physically demanding, attention to detail, manual dexterity, hand-eye coordination, standing for extended periods, overtime required, bending, crouching, kneeling, handling heavy loads -Personal suitability: Judgement, dependability, flexibility, accurate, team player and reliable -Worksite environment: Outdoors, Cold/refrigerated, Dusty, Hot, Noisy Salary: $50 per hour. 70-84 hours per week. Benefits: Employees are eligible for Group Benefits, and Thompson will pay 50% of the premium. Group Benefit Package includes Health, Dental, Vision and paramedical. Other benefits: free parking, accommodations will be provided initially until the individual has determined their housing situation at a later date, and team building opportunities. Vehicle supply by the company during working hours. Uniforms and tools will be provided by the employer. Transportation will be provided to and from the site/camp and/or site and town. Other information: Our workforce works 12 hours daily, 14 days on, and 7 days off with day and night shifts required. Working a rotational schedule is required. Willingness to work in the Ft McMurray area and live in remote camps is required. Work on Holidays and overtime may be required depending on the business needs.
