On behalf of 111,896 people who signed Tamara Chaney's Bill C-373 Petition, PLEASE SEE THIS EMERGENCY UPDATE to help stop BAD animal cruelty legislation from being passed!! Act now to stop useless animal cruelty laws from being passed! Help us follow up on this important issue by sending letters to your MP and the Justice Minister asking them to Support Bill C-373 and reject Bill S-213! This is especially important to do ASAP, as S-213 will be debated in the House soon! We need to stop this ineffective legislation from being passed as it will be impossible to convict abusers, doesn't mention service animals or aboriginals, and leaves current law virtually unchanged! After a century of debate, let's get some laws in place that will work! If S-213 comes into affect, changes cannot be made to it later, unless it's an issue that falls under the criminal code! Contrary to popular rumour, necessary changes like adding in aboriginal rights and protection of service animals can't be made later. Passing this Bill would essentially kill the addition of any other of the important points currently inc. in C-373! It would make the last century of debate a waste of time as leaves in place unpunishable laws. Why allow a weak law to pass that will cause another century of debate and expense of innocent lives and money, while intentional abusers continue to go unpunished, because of vague wording? And just to remind everyone, Bill C-373 protects and allows for all regular industry, research and hunting practices to continue! And anything legal now, still is under C-373. PLEASE!
